Giving Your Ethnic Wear A Modern Twist

Gone are the days when flaunting ethnic meant donning a well-cut, coordinated salwar kameez. With fashion evolving constantly, there are so many different ideas to experiment with.  Moreover, all it requires is a little bit of tweaking to give your ethnic fashion a dose of contemporary style.  Are your kurtas and churidars relegated to a never touched corner of your closet? Here are some of the fashion tips to help you discover how trendy ethnic fashion can actually be-

Ethnic Prints and Western Silhouettes- A Perfect Combo

There’s something about ethnic patterns that thrill all. Be it intricate embroidery, block prints or digital patterns, ethnic designs can add elegance like no other. Take that elegance to the next level by switching silhouettes. Instead of the regular churidar set, opt for ethnic prints on silhouettes that are not strictly ethnic and be the perpetrator of the best fashion trends.

Unusual Pairings

Go a little off the track and give your traditional kurtas a new lease of life by separating it from the obvious partners i.e the churidaars or salwars. Mix and match is the key to create amazing fusion styles that are sure to convert you into a gorgeous modern diva. While you can do it on your own, the other option is to get the same from W store in New Delhi. Pair your regular kurtas with a maxi skirt or a pair of culottes for a look worth noticing. The best part is it works both ways. So don’t hesitate to experiment wearing your salwars or churidars with mini dresses or western tops for a funky look.

Statement Accessories

Aren’t accessories everyone’s favorite? A piece here and there can act like magic and can transform your ensemble completely. Accessories can give your fusion indo-western look the much-needed boost. Moreover, they give your look a sense of coherence.  So go ahead and wear that kurta over floral skirt you bought last week and accessorize with shimmery jhumkis, metallic shoes, a striking belt or whatever you think is right.

Style With A Twist

Ethnic pieces are stunning in themselves.  All you require to do is tweak your style of wearing it to create chic fashion styles. One of the best ways to do it is by rolling up the sleeves and knotting it down at the waist for a quick boho look. You can even style your kurtis as dresses by donning them sans bottom for a smart casual look.  For kurtas with long slits, opt for denim shorts underneath for a cute fusion look.

Head to one of the best shopping malls in India and grab readymade fusion looks for an ultimate makeover!

Visit the unvisited this winter

The best part of the year is here, and it is here with all its splendour. For our own sake, we must ignore the reference of the thick smog outside our windows for the moment. Winters are not just beautiful, they're also a great time to organize all the day trips you have been wanting to go on since the year began. With the end of this year, it is time to check out all those places you had vowed to visit when the year had started. That isolated cafe, that underrated brunch place, and that hidden library - they all need your attention.
But despite the fact that we promised to forget the smog so as to not ruin our winter bliss, we must take corrective measures to protect ourselves from this monstrosity that befalls us every single winter. For the next ten days, it is best we choose places that are indoors and are completely covered from all sides. I know that's not our ideal scenario, but our health comes first. And come on, we will not leave you hanging!

We have brought together some of the best places one can visit which are not only covered but are also mysterious and equally fun.

1. British council library

When we talk about places to visit, one very charming place comes to mind. The British council library, situated in the centre of Delhi, very close to Connaught Place, is absolutely delightful. With an artsy arrangement of paintings and murals, they also have one of the most fabulous collections of British authors I have ever come across. Along with books, they lend DVDs and even conduct workshops for spoken English and personality development. A membership for the library is inexpensive and very useful and one can spend hours here, tucked away in its comfort and many gifts.

2. SelectCityWalk

The reason why this mall found a way into this list while others did not is simply because of its uniqueness and convenience. It has literally everything under one roof - whether we talk about the best salons in Delhi or fun playhouses for kids. From swanky showrooms to other entertaining elements, this mall has it all. It even has a flea market they organize every week or fortnightly!

3. Cafes

Not every cafe is closed and equally amazing, but many cafes in Delhi are. Whether we talk about cafes in Khan market the likes of Perch or the newly opened The Civil House, or we select separate cafes like the Rose cafe is Saket, they all have one thing in common - an extraordinary ambience. Combined with vintage and chic elements, they provide all kinds of wonderful experiences.

4. Indian Habitat Centre

One of my favourite places in Delhi till date is the Indian Habitat Centre. I have never seen a place which can serve the interests of such a diverse group before. Whether you are a theatre enthusiast, a budding writer, or an artist trying out new things- you can find some or the other event of your liking here. From plays to photography, from galleries to theatres, from dance performances to book launches, IHC is a hub of all cultures and preferences.

This winter, escape the smog and imbibe the culture of your dear city. It has a lot more to offer.

5 Things to do in a Mall other than Shopping

Over the years, mass inclination towards malls has created quite a stir. People are preferring malls over local markets because of so many reasons. One of the major reasons is that malls are the hub of major designer and international brands.

In the capital itself, there are a number of malls driving people in on daily basis. Being one-stop destination, malls have a lot to offer than just shopping. Below is the list of things that one can do in a mall:

1.Gourmet Experience: After having a tiring yet incredible shopping experience, one would not want to miss the heavenly meal that is available at the malls. From a light starter to delighted main-course, there is nothing that you can’t get in a mall.

2.Entertainment: Malls are an ultimate haven of entertainment. With the number of activities, one can hardly resist going to a mall. Apart from that, there are places to hang out and have a good time too, like movie halls and sports zone.

3.Lifestyle: Good looks are equally important with good apparels. With services like gym, spas, and salon in Delhi, malls have reached to the new heights of service.

4.A luxurious stay: The amiable and hospitable aura that malls provide, lead them to give their customers a stay that is enjoyable and delightful. Select CITYWALK not only gives a promising experience with shopping in Delhi but also have one-of-its-kind suite hotel.

5.Events: As already mentioned, malls are the hub of entertainment and activities. From time to time, the malls keep on organizing events in order to get more and more customers. Flea market, dance camps, summer camps, makeover sessions and much more like this, are organized by the mall committee.

So next time you’re in a mall, check out for other services that they offer. Make your holidays and weekend a fun-filled outing with these services.

Revive Yourself This Festive Season!

Festivals mark the start of the auspicious period. They are a beginning of something new in our lives. Festivals demand us to revive ourselves and sprinkle some glitter on our otherwise boring and dull lives. While we are basking in sweets and gorging on some delectable lavish meals at good restaurants and buying gifts, why not make an extra  effort and do something beyond this and for ourselves?

Try reviving yourself this festive season and look at the ways you can do so-

  •  Become a spend thrift: Shopping is actually a therapy that everyone likes to indulge in. Not only women, but men too are great shoppers. At the time of this season, buy yourself something nice that gives you happiness from within. Get jewellery or clothes or any electronic item, buy goods for yourself once and explore the best shopping malls in India, like Select City Walk for one, if required. Become an absolute spend thrift. People say that shopping has an effect that fetches us contentment and makes us smile. So combat your stress and de-stress by immersing yourself in extravagant shopping spree for you know, you deserve it!
  •  Exercising makes the mood better: It is a significant fact that when we exercise, we release the happy hormones that has a power to elevate our mood and keeps negativity at bay. Go to any Delhi gym to exercise, or try Yoga if that interests you more, but do try excising. You will not only feel fit outside, but also from the inside. Set such gym goals and follow them and look great in these festivities.
  •  Learn new activity or pursue a hobby: We all have some things in our heart that we wanted to do, but could not do it. So this is the time you could do it. Festive season means great discounts and deals, so look out for activities that you could do and avail such deals. Theatre, dance, music, all have a healing and an amazing power to change you and fill you with ecstasy. Scour through the internet, find the right activity for you and just go for it.
As I said, festivals mark the new beginnings so try doing these, imbibe the good vibes of the festivities in you and bring about a change in your lifestyle. Trust us; the feeling will be excessively gratifying when you do things for you, in your self-interest.
